You visit Niagara Falls, but you forget that the huge ships that ply the Great Lake have to get around Niagara Falls. They do it by going through the locks of the Welland Canal. The ships must rise from Lake Ontario, or fall from Lake Erie and the Welland Canal is important because of its ability to move these ships full of cargo up and down the Niagara Escarpment, contributing to the economic growth and development of Canada and the United States. Approximately 40,000,000 metric tonnes of cargo is carried through the Welland Canal annually by over 3,000 ocean and lake vessels. Since 1965, the Skylon tower has dominated the sky over Niagara Falls. Standing at 160 metres (520 feet) from street level and 236 metres (775 feet) from the bottom of the falls. It was the second tower to be built using the slipform method, in which concrete is continually poured into a form moving slowly up the tower. The tower features three outside mounted “Yellow Bug” elevators. At the time of their construction they were the first such elevators in Canada. The Whirlpoo Aero Car. Soar the Great Gorge, high above the racing Niagara River where you’ll be transported through the air in an antique cable car.
